Hey i have a 5.4 triton v8 f150. Its a 2001. Im
planning on putting a muffler on it and have a few
questions. I live near salt lake city utah. I want to
remove the tailpipe all together and dump it
straight down. Is that legal? And also i noticed that
this truck has 4 cats on it.. Is it legal to remove any
of them?? They kinda kills the sound.. Any laws i
need to know of will be much appreciated! Thanks!

The federal law prohibits removal of the catalytic converters, unless it's a "off road only" race vehicle. I'm not a lawyer but I recall some extreme fines and fees being enforced! I The E.P.A. main auto facility is right here in Ann Arbor, MI.. There are still options high flow cat systems along with larger diameter pipes quite a few aftermarket company's manufacture tuned KITS especially for the truck market.

Auto_centric cool thanks. Its not a huge deal to me but if it was legal id probably chop 2 of the cats off. How about laws about dumping the exhaust straight down. I wouldn't think that would be a problem as long as it extends past the cab so i dont gas myself. But who knows whats legal anymore. So many nit-pickey rules now with fines that i want to avoid.
