Asked by Cliff Dec 18, 2016 at 03:30 PM about the 2002 Ford F-150 Lariat SuperCab 4WD SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Truck seems as if it is not firing when the problem occurs. Starter spins with
no ignition. Problem has occurred now 5-6 times each time being more or
less lengthy showing no pattern of consistancy. After identifying the no start
problem driver noticed the battery light coming on while the alternator shows
to be charging.

First, if it is a factory key, they seldom go bad in sending the signal to start the car. Usually when there is a rapid pulse of the theft light, accompanied by no info being sent to the info center on the dash, the PCM is not talking to the cluster. When this condition usually occurs, the engine will not crank. In those instances the problem usually lies in a bad ground somewhere. Check the basics first, bad ground connection or power connection affecting the PCM.
