transmission swap speedometer way off

Asked by rickum Aug 28, 2016 at 12:47 PM about the 2002 Ford F-150 XLT SuperCab Stepside SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I swapped a 4r70w transmission from a 2004 expedition out of a wrecking yard into my nieces 2002 f150. Now the speedometer is reading way off, like 100mph at about 25-30 mph. I have done some research and it sounds like there may some difference between vss and oss sensors, or gear tooth count??? However I have not been able to find any details on a fix, or weather I have the wrong trans completely. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am not sure about the tranny on your Ford, but see if the speedo drive housing is the same and swap them over, when carrying out a conversion like this seek professional help from a qualified technician who would be able to source a like for like transmission
