There is a key that must be used to lower the tire. To be more secure you will probably have to use a chain and lock.
We took it to a dealership and showed us to use the ignition key on a lock that is on the bumper. To unlock it you turn it after ignition key is put in there and pull the lock out. It's a really nice feature.
