I'm working on the same year mine wont go in drive

I'm able to shift from park to drive IF I turn OFF my headlight switch. But, once I turn ON the headlights, the instrument panel goes dark and same scenario w/ the hi-beam indicator and turn signal indicators being on "solid" (but low lighted).

Check the ground wires (3 ea.) coming from fuse panel box on the passenger side. I had a bad ground connector on the rusted out frame and cut wires, crimped stacon connectors and re-connected stacons to a different ground screw in same area. Good luck
