Question type: Maintenance & Repair

cruise control no longer works in my 2004 F150 FX4. I have read that it is
possible the brake pedal sensor is faulty. Anyone know anything about it?

First check to see if it goes in cruise mode when u turn it on at the steering wheel. If it does then it's not the fuse. If in cruise mode, check cables going to ur throtle body. If all cables areok and connected, check brake peddal switch

As far as I know it has hasome been in for the recall. It was working off and on then it just stopped. I took the brake pedal switch off and opened it up and the inside has some discolotation like it got hot. I ordered a new one to see if this fixes it. Thanks for your input.

I checked with the dealer, and they said my truck (2004 f-150 4wd, new body style, 5.4 engine) was not included in the cruise control recall issue. There is no 2 amp in line fuse that I can find or any sort of switch on the brake reservoir, so perhaps this is different for the new body style?? Thanks,

Do you have a center console shifter? My cruise started acting funny then all of a sudden it would not shift out of park. Changed the safety switch on the shifter & now everything works fine. The safety switch wont let you put in gear without your foot on the brake & is tied to the cruise control.

Hello.i hope that this helps with the Cruse control problems.look under the das.theres a two wire switch that sets above the brake light switch.mine was blue and white.check it.it will show that it has a closed circuit even when it should be closed.replace it if all the brake lights are working and the fuse is good.for those with that pesky brake light that is on it will still fix the problem.i just fixed mine by replacing that switch hioe this helps

Sorry.have put a typo in last post. the circuit will show continuity all the time.when your foot is off of the brake pedal it should not show any continuity.if it's showing continuity your Cruse will not work.the switch is easy to replace.is a twist lock installation and removal.
