Having to press gas peddle to get engine to start

When cold engine turns but will not start
unless gas pedal is depressed and when it
starts engine smells as though it was
flooded.

If it smells flooded perhaps an injector is leaking or you have a fuel leak under the hood. When was the last time you tuned it up?
