Can I swap engines from a 2002 to a 2005 Ford F150 XLT Triton 8?
Asked by Uniontownkitty Nov 19, 2015 at 03:36 PM about the 2005 Ford F-150 XLT 4WD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I bought the 2005 Ford F150 6 months ago and it's had one problem after
another with the Triton V8 XLT ever since. After $4,000 in engine work, and
after the last oil change, the oil pressure tanked and the engine seized up. The
dealership it was towed to says the engine is shot and has to be replaced.
I also have a 2002 F150 with the Triton V8 XLT that I put a new Jasper in 3 yrs
ago - the original engine kept blowing out spark plugs.
My question is if I can put the 2002 engine in the 2005?

It will probably drop right in, but before you spend money and effort, many States have emissions laws that a replacement engine must be the same year or newer than the recipient. yep, those Triton heads only had 4 turns of threads and on aluminum heads on top of that. They blew out like bullets. . It was ridiculous

Having the same problem with my 2 valve 5.4 in my excursion. 6 spark plug hole rethread. And now one of those rethread is stripped. Looking to replace with another engine that will bolt on without much modification that is not blowing plugs. Any suggestions
Engines changed to 3 valve in 2004. Until 2008, I believe. I wouldn't buy an F150 from those years. Get one prior or after. Trying to "rig" an engine that does not belong to the year is a recipe for trouble.

Now they used the 5.4 in econoline vans till present day. I have heard tale that up till 2008 (2009 went flex fuel) that they should swap. Has anyone heard different?
Can I put a 2014 motor 6.8 in Ford 2004
2004 F-250 and 2006 ecoline van can will motor swap work both has 5.4 in it
I need to know I have and 02 f.150 5.4 can I put a 99 f.150 5.4 in it
I have a 5.4 Triton engine in my 2002 ford king rance and treated it like a baby, but still, only with 70,000 on it ,the timing chain ( I hear it has 3 timing chains, 2 in rear, one in front. Its junk. Ford should come up and have some BALLS to recall all those trucks that have the original owner,, replace with some other v8 engine. I heard about after 4 years they stopped that engine. Not really sure
Don't get the 5.4 Triton, no good. I have one. After 70k it's no good
We have had a 1999 Ford F150 that we bought brand new. Very little money put into it. This past June the engine finally croaked. We put in a Jasper Engine and it ran fine. 3 weeks ago a 83 y/o driving in a residential subdivision and she took out my husband's 16ft trailer his riding mower & yes his truck.....All totaled Thank God my husband did not get hurt. I want to buy my truck back from salvage yard. Anyone know if I will be able to sell the Jasper engine?!? Also can I put that engine in a 2006 Ford F150?!? I have a friend who is interested in buying it. I would appreciate any and all feedback, Thanks
The only difference in the 5.4 engine is the one prior to 2004 is a 2 valve engine and is a much much better engine than the 5.4 3 valve triton they came out with in 2004. You can buy a cam phaser lock out kit for the 5.4 3 valve and lock the cam phasers and it will be just like th old 5.4. I have a 2007 with the 3 valve and I put the cam phaser lock out kit in it and no problems so far. But you will have to have a tune or your ecm if you put the cam phaser lock out kit in. I also have a 2003 5.4 2 valve in a 2003 f150 and it has 285,000 miles on it and I have had it 10 years. Best truck I ever owned, not one bolt turned on the motor so far besides tune ups and regular maintenance on it.

I have an '02 with 303,243 miles and just now my #5 cylinder has lower compression than needed. I'm not complaining - that engine has been a Man. It's in a F-250 4x4 that works Hard about 4 days Every day of the week pulling 5 to 12 thousand pounds of trailer and farm equipment. Reading these comments, I think I'll just rebuild my existing engine rather than upgrading.
My head gasket blew in my 2003 4.6 v8 f150 with the titan engine. Can i swap it with a 2001 engine that is still a 4.6 v8 f150 engine?

Seems like everyone keeps asking questions, but not many real answers. Oh well, here goes... I have THREE, Ford F series trucks... 2010 F-150 with Triton 4.6l, 2 valve (yes, TWO valve in a 2010); and a 2001 F-450 with Triton 6.8l, v10, 2 valve; and a 1993 F-350 super duty with 7.3l idi diesel (non-turbo...the million-mile-factory- bullet-proof school bus engine) So...the F450 blew a plug, stripped threads, was my first time encounter. I hopped in the F-150 to go hit the "ST"ealership up for advice....about half mile from the house, THAT truck blew a plug! I limped it back home and hopped in the F350 and MADE IT to the dealership. There I learned theres only 4 threads (1/4 inch of aluminum) holding the plugs in, and that Ford techs use the "Cal Van" thread kits to reem, tap and install new threaded insert. Cal Van kits are about 200 bucks, versus the 6 to 15 dollar kits sold at chain auto parts stores. The 450 is my weld rig, so needed it on the road ASAP, so bought a cheap kit and tried it. Actually, in tried it on the 150 first...reamed the hole, tapped new threads, inserted the insert, fire up the truck and had a miss in the rumble! Swapped out trucks, did all same crap to the 450, and ended up with same result...a miss in one cylinder! So, I'm not a complete moron, I know I did it correctly....with is the problem!?!? I'm about to order the CalVan kit, and try it all again, but cant understand why both trucks ended up with a miss. ....and after reading the thousands of other people's stories, want to start a class action suit against what "USE" to be my favorite automaker! WTH Ford!?!?!
Never again will I buy a Ford newer than 1993. NAISE certified general mechanic (all 8)

I have a 2001 f150 witha blown motor oil pump went out and i recently got a 2005 f150 almost free 300dollars engine still runs tranny went out whati needto know is if the transmissions will bolt up the same i dont care how long it lastsi just need to knoe if they will bolt up correctly
The 2v 5.4 was a fantastic engine prior to 2004. It will go 300k+ no problem The 4 threads on spark plug was NOT an issue The problem was an incorrect spark plug torque, something ridiculous like 10 ft-lb. Ford tsb corrected this to 28, never any more issues. These threads take 100 no problem. No antisieze either. If your plugs blow out....due to lack of maintenance....check and tighten plugs every 50k ...duh. Plastic intake manifold cracked after a few yrs.....upgraded for 2002 i think Some engines had a burr on head that lead to hg failure at high miles....150k+. Need to use correct oil/filter, and change regularly to minimize plastic timing guide wear. Need proper cooling maintenance not to fail heater core, or hg by corrosion. Thats it ..otherwise completely bulletproof

well guys,i got sick of buying 5,4 and 4,6 for e- series cargo fordmotor for alot $$$ van,so i ask what other car or truck had this 5.4 or 4.6,they said a caddilac,i said how much?half the price or more of the e250,i said ill take it,so I got it home and strip the motor down,I notice the front plate on front of engine from caddy mounts wouldnt work,so i took off the front plate of engine i bought and swaped it,i used the front plate off the bad engine, easy to do just seal it good,it went right in and everything hooked up just great, and ran very good, just to let you all know a little bit extra work saves you alot of money,NOte always make sure all your wireing hook up are same, and use the oil coolers off your old engine ,intake, manifold, and other sencers,if all look good go for it!!

Can you change 5.4L 2003 Ford F150 to a newer 5.0L out of a new F150? I was thinking of trying this because I have heard the 5.0 has better torque and is a lot more reliable. What is everyone's idea on this. Thanks.
