General upgrade question: Can I drive a heavily modded motor w/o a tune?

Asked by TJ Aug 04, 2015 at 04:11 PM about the 1993 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning 2 Dr STD Standard Cab SB

Question type: Car Customization

I am looking at a 1st gen ford
Lightning, and it has a new motor,
cams, lifters, supercharger, bigger tb,
etc. Guy says he hasn't driven it bc
there is no tune on it. Would driving it
without a tune hurt the motor?

if he means he HAS NOT OPENED IT UP>>>PUSHED IT>>>RAN IT HARD>>> if timing/curve,fule,curve are close and it starts and does respond.. baby it ...YES.. BUT IT NEEDS TO BE CHECKED ALL OF IT>>is why hes selling it...messed up?

He needs a family truck. I'm just trying to figure out how to get it 4.5 hours home.

Driving it without a tune could damage the engine if the mods were significant.

It is going to need a dyno tune done by a competent tuner.
