1992 Ford F250 Electrical Power issues

Asked by Redneckified Oct 24, 2014 at 09:23 PM about the 1992 Ford F-250 2 Dr STD 4WD Standard Cab LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1992 Ford F250 that is having some serious electrical issues. It drove great just
before the issue developed. Then it just stopped having power to just about everything. No
headlights, radio, doesnt turn over, cant hear the solenoid click, nada.... except for the courtesy
lights come on. Havent had much time to check much, just need a few directions to head in so
that I hopefully dont wast to much time.

Did you ever find the problem? Ours is doing the same thing. The battery has been replaced three times (that's not the issue). Something is causing the batteries to die out.

Extejana, it sounds like you have a parasitic draw somewhere. Try either Ericthecarguy.com or scottykilmer.com for how to locate a parasitic draw. Not that hard to do. They both have good videos on the subject.

All the signs point to a totally failed alternator. If it starts with a jump, or a new battery, then you must put your volt meter across the battery terminals to see if it is charging the battery. You should read slightly over battery voltage. About 14.5 volts........

sounds like a fuse or short to ground on a battery terminal. maybe the ignitian switch or coil. test them both and see if they are working.
