Fuel tank switch/selector on dash. What happens if it goes bad on a 93 ford f250

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Starts up, idles, put in gear add power runs for 4miles, starts backfiring under-hood,
looses power( mean while switching tanks back and forth, pumping accelerator) before it
dies.  Let it cool down for twenty minutes can baby it back home.   Changed both fuel
pumps, fuel filter twice, oil/filter, EEC , FPR.   That's say I have not changed coil, ICM

Sound,s like a bad ignition control module,going bad.

I was dreading the ICM for last, so do the fuel tank switch/selector ever go bad..I figure since I abuse the switch more than what it really design for plus 21 yrs old it could go bad. I just don't know the symptoms

No a swicth would just not work at all,not just sometime,s .
