"Awhile to engage" means 5 - 10 seconds or 2-3 minutes ? 5-10 seconds could be normal due to age, but 2-3 minutes sounds like it needs the bands tightened or the transmission rebuilt. By any chance did you try changing or have already changed the "Transmission Vacuum Modulator" as it might be getting weak with age and its the cheapest thing to try.
The concern you mention is common for your transmission. A reputable transmission shop will know exactly how to address the problem but it usually involves an overhaul and some updated internal parts. BTW: The E4OD transmission does not have a vacuum modulator - It's electronic - ya know - Computer controlled.

"Tracy", First you need to learn when to "be quiet". Second based on what he has stated, you and I don't know whether his '99 has the C6 (still installed in '99's), Fords first electronic transmission the EOD (installed in all V8 cars, light trucks and special order in larger trucks in '99), or the E4OD which was more commonly used by '99. We also don't know if his truck was a special order unit were the transmission could be the C6 heavy duty non-electronically controlled transmission.
Oh yeah, "Special Order" uh huh.

"Tracy", every time you reply to something you show everyone how little you actually know from your claim of "real experience". For claiming to have 35 years experience, you have never heard of "Special Order" trucks ? Back when I worked two jobs, one working for a major auction company we had many trucks both Ford and Chevy from power companies, phone companies, lumber companies, construction companies, oil drilling and well drilling companies that did not have OD transmissions because they know they would kill the transmissions quicker. AS STATED BEFORE "Keep quiet". Until you get the all the facts, you don't know how to answer someone's question to be of help to them, you can only "guide" them so that they can get the correct answer (read fix) on their own.

1999...sakes this buggy's 'bout due for some maintenance...we must try to make up for lost time....change the transmission fluid and filter....simple tune up with new plugs and air filter...perhaps we are getting ahead of ourselves, gentlemen...we've gotta think about the basics here with so much mileage~

So I have a 99 Ford f250 auto transmission drive line and rear axel. I just picked up a 2002 f150 with the 4.6 that was punched in the rear end. It needs a rear axel and I'm hoping to put the f250 transmission and rear tuning gear on the 150. So I wanted to know if it is possible. And if it's very hard to do. Or where to ask something like that. Thank you.
