2002 Chevy Tracker began to sputter & die while driving. I thought it ran out of fuel. After refueling it wouldn't start. It started after being cable jumped, but died 3 times while driving it home.

so at this point you dont know if was running out of gas related????
Fist you must check your altenator, this sounds difficult but it is easy to do. If your car wont start charge the battery to full charge, Take a digital tester (you can buy these for under 10 bucks) set the setting to DC VOLTS with the car running you need to have at least 13.5 to 14 volts to maintain your car while running to keep your battery fully charged and run all your acc.
and it would not let you shift out of park because It has a electric shift interlock, when you press on the brake a electric solenoid releases the gear shift. Without 12 volts it will not release the shifter
Sorry Janedumestre no such thing as a clutch switch, there is a starter safty nuetral swithch in the trans, but has nothing to do with what Micheal's problem
