Sounds like a bad ignition switch,Chevy was good for that.

There numerous relearning system methods we've tried on the other two steering columns, but we're starting to think either something just isn't right, you see this trail blazer was driving before but the switch wouldn't let the key cylinder sit in the off position so that it wouldn't drain the battery, that's why we took the cover off and pushed the button so it would cut the power drain off like it should, it's just now it's a derelict car with good motor and transmission that wont crank , do we just keep trying replacing steering columns or change the switch and key cylinder?

Replace the ignition switch (the electrical part) and make sure the ign, fuses are good.

Take the gear shift knob/ handle with the button, take it off, just a little tiny screw right below the button then it pulls up. Theres a plastic rod/lever inside of the bar, just pull up on that plastic lever and it will let you turn the key off and let it crank the engine to start
