2000 cr-v..when the car is in cruise control it loses power going up the slightest incline. Any ideals what would cause that??

When I have the cruise control on, going up the slightest of a hill causes the mph to drop and the engine kicks in ramping up from 2.5-3 rpm's to 4-4.5 to get up the incline. Any ideal what would cause this??

I think it's normal. My 2001 CR-V does the same thing. With the cruise control on at 70 MPH entering a slight incline the transmission will shift from torque converter locked 4th gear to unlocked 3rd gear sending the engine to 4500 RPM. Try driving the same road using your foot and you can maintain 70 MPH without the transmission down shifting. The cruise control is slow to react to the increased load of the incline, falls behind your cruising speed and floors the throttle to catch up. This automatic transmission is not well suited to the engine's torque curve and weight of the car. A 5 speed is needed here. No fix that I know of.
I agree. My Toyota does the same thing. It prevents 'gear hunting' kicking in and out of OD, Nothing wrong with running your engine up to 4500 rpm, Matter of fact good for it on occasion. No worries, you are good to go
Mine does this as well, downshifts. Problam is after the hill when the shift should go back to OD it stays in the lower gear until I hit the gas a few times or take cruise off. Ides on this scenario?
