DrIver side sliding door won't close
Asked by sdm0804 Nov 12, 2012 at 11:48 AM about the 2006 Honda Odyssey EX FWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 2006 Honda Odyssey EX. The driver side sliding power door will not close since last night. Tried switching
to manual; still the door won't close. Showing "Slide Door" sign on the Instrument Panel. My driveway is on a slope
so the door closing mechanism has gone progressively worse. Sometimes the power door won't work and I've had
to close the door manually.
If someone is able to help, I would appreciate it. The van is in my garage currently since I cannot take it to the
dealership with the van door open.
Thanks.

sounds like the lock on the door is in the locked position where it hits the striker to lock the door
Santapaws1, thanks for your response. Any suggestions how I can fix the issue? Thanks in advance. Regards, sdm0804
For some people pulling the PSD fuse out for few mins and putting it back on reset the code. It didn’t help in my 2009 Honda Odyssey EXL for the same problem. But found another suggestion on the net to disconnect the negative terminal of the battery and reconnect after 5 mins. That helped. The power slide door works now and dash board “slide door” light is not on anymore.

My problem wasn't as simple as restarting. My door froze open. I couldn't shut it manually or electronically. Friend of mine woks for Honda and told me to grab the back of the door by where the glass and panel meet . Pull it towards you(away from the car) and try and push it manually. He said it was my center track that was bad.. Worked for me. He also said to check If the gas door was open as we'll. good luck hope this helps. hobokenjames@yahoo.com
Same problem. Did any of these fix your problem? What did it end up being?
On a 2000 Honda Odyssey, it is Fuse #13, a 7.5A fuse, located on the bottom right side in front of the passenger seat. It just needs to be out for 10 seconds. The clock will need be adjusted after you pop it back in.

Tried the whole 7-step thing, set door switch off, pull power door fuse, set switch on, start engine, wait 10 secs, etc. you see this suggestion on several web sites. What finally worked? Yank the negative battery cable for 5 mins and reconnect, working fine now, and the "SLIDE" malfunction indicator is gone from the dash. Thank You NATA2014! It's a 2005 Oddity EX. Oh, and BTW - we've encountered the dreaded Honda Oddity transmission rebuild issue, at only 120,000 miles. I mean, come on, it's supposed to be a Honda. But that's for another thread....
I have a 2009 Odessey with the same problem. Problem started about three years ago. While under warranty they said they just reset it, but today they said it is a roller. I don't know what is different because it is exactly the same as before except this time it is costing me almost $400. Apparently, the roller rides along the rivers and it senses tension so it stops. If it was doing the same thing for three years, why was it not the roller then?
Hobokenjames...your solution worked for me! My door was frozen open. I pulled on the door towards me (out from card) from the rear part of the door, where the window meets the frame...and BINGO. it closed and the electronic door opener works again. Thank you much!

Thank you so much! We just did the pull-the-door-out thing after trying everything else we could think of (had to use the other car to get to church and leave the van open in the driveway!), then found this post this afternoon. The driver-side door was completely frozen open and wouldn't budge. Fuses weren't the issue, battery wasn't it. Dash button didn't affect it. The door now opens and closes electrically. Hope it will not happen again, but this door has been acting up for a long time (months). It usually bounces back open or closed midway, resists moving (and requires muscle), and is especially bad when parked facing downhill. It got to the point we stopped using it, but my son forgot this morning. We have a 2006 EXL. We had door-sticking problems on both sides with our 2000 EX, also, especially in the cold, which has also affected the 2006.

1/13/2016 pull the fuse out for 30 seconds, put it back in, the sliding door that didn't close, closes now. The fuse box is on the passenger side down by your feet & inside the fuse box you'll see the description of what each fuse does. The fuse you need is labeled "Sliding doors" & is a 20 amp fuse. Easy fix! Thanks to all that posted before me! I started with the easy thing to do 1st.

My 2006 sliding drivers side door would not shut completely yesterday after dropping my son off at school. The alarm was sounding and the light was on showing that the door was open, even after I bumped it w/ my hip and shut it completely the alarm continued until I shut the auto door feature off. I also turned off interior lights b/c they were on. This morning my car is completely dead and won't start.....

Sailor2015 - while waiting for an answer from someone with a 2006 Odyssey you might want to pull the appropriate fuse & put it back in & that might reset the electronics & get things back to normal. Odyssey_Guy (with a 2000 year Odyssey)

I suggest replacing the center rollers on both doors as the nylon rollers tend to go bad or even fall off after years of repeated use. When they go bad, the door drops down a bit, causing a metal to metal friction, hence the sticking part. I had similar problems with both the doors on my 05 Odyssey. Problems went away after I replaced the center rollers on both doors. Here's the YouTube link: https://youtu.be/KoQJ5bwqECQ
so my 2005 EXL has this closing problem. it goes 3/4 closed then tripped and opened again. it's 15F in Conn. tonight and I thought it would require the most time consuming fix. the pull on the back of the door worked! thanks for all the tips here.
My daughter's 2007 has been having door issues for quite a while. Driver side sliding door completely immobile - would not open or close. Pulled on the door as suggested above and it worked. I suspect her center rollers/track are trashed, along with a dead battery or alternator which caused the whole issue in the first place. Thanks for your help!
My name is Isabel Sanches my email is maryvieira45@yahoo.com could you guys please send me an email explain what to do thanks I have a 2007 Honda odyssey the driver side sliding door doesn't close automatically I would like to know what to do for it close automatically
I have a 2007 Honda Odyssey. The passenger sliding door would shut all the way, but after about 10 seconds, it would pop back out about 3/8" causing the open door sensor to sound. After reading plenty of forums and watching several videos I decided to take out the 20 amp fuse for the passenger sliding door. I left it out overnight and reinserted it the next day. To my surprise the door shut all the way and stayed shut. No more sensor!
The most talked about answer worked with no problems for me. That's pulling the door out from the car at the joint of the window and door frame. It literally popped into place and allowed me to manually shut the door! Thank you, thank you, everyone who posted.
On the end of the door towards the back there is the locking mechanism (U shaped), using the red plastic straw on the WD-40 can spray it in the little hole by the U shaped piece then move the U piece closed and it will keep opening like it does when your trying to close the door, do this like 10-15 times and every few times spray more WD-40 in there, after around 15 times mine stopped opening and now works fine.

I just did this Cush81460. Now the latch is just stuck in the locked position and will not budge even when pulling the door handle and pushing it with a screwdriver to encourage it along. Nothing gets the latch moving. It's as if it's seized into place or something has it locked in the locked position. Any advice on how to get it to come back out so I can close the door?
The rear latch is seized. Remove the inside door panel and remove the rear latch. Make sure all mechanisms are free and lubricate as needed. Re-install latch and perform reset by removing both positive and negative battery cables and fasten them together for 30 minutes. Set main switch to off and open and close both doors fully. Set main switch to on and everything should work normally.
2001: I had to replace a lock, junkyard, what happened to mine was that the plastic that covers the locking piece, so it doesn't seize, actually wares and tears and gets jammed down inside. You can cut the plastic off, but be sure to keep it lubed so it doesn't rust weld itself to the u-hook. I am down to my last straw on my sliders, i am going to try the battery reset. None of the other fixes work anymore. New rollers, did fuses including under the hood check. Was trying to find out if possibly the door motor is dying, but that wouldn't effect the locks, would it? I heard something out bad grounds in Odysseys too, but don't know where to find that. Any new input would be great.
2009 Odyssey - when I opened the drivers side door I heard a "bump" at the end point that did not sound normal, or healthy. Went to close it - it started, but then stops with a "thump". I tried the solution mentioned above of pulling the back of the door out - then did an electronic close, and it worked. Seems like the arm came out of the track. Have not tried opening it again yet. I'm guessing something's wrong with the rollers. Will look into it now (there are videos online...).

Thank you Hobokenjames! Just got home, it's Christmas Eve, and we couldn't get the driver side sliding door on our 2010 Odyssey to shut. Tried to force it to close manually and we got a loud bang and a mangled little nylon bearing popped out onto the driveway. We tried your "pull the door away from the minivan" while pulling the door shut maneuver - it moved like magic and now it is shut. Thank you, thank you, thank you, and thank you again!
Happen to me... Our passenger. Door got stuck after the battery died.. Mby husband. Broke. THE. Door completely off. Took it to the dealership they said $3000, so it's still broken. Tonight. The driver side sliding door got stuck after the battery died on the car. Told my husbandnot to break this one. Came home from church and we started to tape the door... I searched googled and say these post. We pulled the door towards us, now it opens and close no problem. Thank you guys... But curious to What I need to do so it will not happen again...my apologies..don't fell like going back to re type typos...lol

Follow up to my Christmas 2018 post - driver side sliding door was no longer working and the passenger door started getting a little weird. So I took my Odyssey to my local mechanic. He ordered new track kits for both doors and installed them for less than $500 (including parts and "book rate" labor for both doors). Mechanic mentioned that those little nylon track ball- things are notorious for wearing out and causing problems. Both doors are working fine now.
Alot times the locking mechanism is in it's locked position. If this happens not allowing to shut the door usually you can pull the door handle back and at the same time take a screwdriver to push the locking mechanism forward to free it to where its back in unlock position. Most vehicles will release it as you pull back on the handle and push the latch forward. I've helped two different people that I didn't know out in public who's door wouldn't shut and my method worked both times.. Now if it continues then I assume the latch is done for.
IT WORKS!.....disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery for a few minutes, then start the engine...door is sliding happily with no hesitance....Thank you for this suggestion.

My problem was with my 2003 Odyssey drivers side sliding door. Came to a grinding halt about halfway closed. Good advice from all got me looking at the rollers. Cleaned tracks and sprayed rollers with WD40. Also put a little on the tracks. Works great. Probably need to replace rollers in the near future.
I am having a problem with my 2008 Odyssey. It's the passenger side rear power sliding door. My wife opened it to get something at 11pm last night, then woke me up to tell me it won't close! I tried various suggestions on here (this list isn't in order): *Start up the van *Remove negative battery terminal for 5+ minutes then put it back on *Turn master switch off & back on, near the steering wheel *Try the inside and outside door handle *Use WD-40 on the moving parts/assemblies I can see without taking anything apart *Pull the door out from the end of the door where the window and panel meet *Pull hard to force it closed manually *Remove and then re-add various fuses inside the car and under the hood *Kick the door until it's dented (just kidding, but I want to) The driver's side rear power sliding door works fine. On the passenger side, there's no electronic sound like it's even trying to close. There's no clicking, it's completely lifeless. I have had previous issues with the door stuttering when it closes, or stopping mid-close and then re-opening. I haven't ordered any parts or taken it for service yet because I'm really short on time, and the local service station is super booked. I can say with 100% certainty that the rubber bumper piece at the top of the door on the sliding track is missing. The one everyone says wears off.
Pulling door out worked! Thank you! battery die and just had enough power to open both sliding doors, and both doors wont close manully and automatically...anyway, finally pulling door out worked and now both working fine.

Holymoly, sh*t fart, thank you all so much. The pull out the door to close worked. Man, was getting so frustrated as this started out replacing a thermostat temp sensor and somehow the door broke in the meantime. Anyway, pulling the door out from the body allowed it to close and sort of reset and is now working again. Good night!! :)
