Ignition switch

Asked by Robert Feb 12, 2016 at 03:53 PM about the 1994 Chevrolet S-10 LS Extended Cab RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Have a 1994 Chevy s-10 it starts but the ignition
switch stays in start position and does not
disengage the starter without manually turning the
switch back alittle. Most of the time when I
manually turn the switch back alittle it shuts the
engine off. So can get any info on if it's a electrical
thing or relay issue or is it in the ignition switch or
what could possibly be the problem?

I'd say the ignition switch, they get worn and sticky, so the spring can't push back off of the start position.

Do you know of anything that could fix it or just have to replace the switch? Could a application of grease or anything on a part that could simplify this issue without replacing the switch?

You can take it apart and clean, re grease it, (dialectic grease) it can be done, but difficult. I'd have a new one on hand so you don't get stuck. (having to run and get a new switch)
