1995 S-10 Four Cylinder Engine misfires (170000 miles)

Starting the cold engine - no problem; driving the initial five miles, even when accelerating hard - no problem;  thereafter when going a near constant speed - no problem; but when accelerating from, say 50 to 60 mph - PROBLEM.  This acceleration causes what I think is a misfire (after engine is at operating temperature?), sort of a tiny lurch felt every second or two.  At first I thought it was water in newly filled tank of gas. So I added a bottle of 'dewaterer' and a bottle of fuel ejector cleaner bought at auto parts store.  No change. Eventually used up the gas and refilled.  "Misfire' Problem not solved.  What is problem and what do I do?

In a dark environment put the vehicle in gear with the break and give it some gas to "load" the engine, while doing this have somebody standing to the side of the vehicle and look all around for any jumping ignition stray sparks.
