Fuel pressure problem

Asked by Carl Jan 16, 2016 at 03:08 AM about the 1997 Chevrolet S-10 LS Extended Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Had this truck 4 days. Supposedly the fpr
was bad & I had to use starting fluid to
start it. I haven't checked the pressure yet
but plan on it tmrw if I can get a gauge. I
know it's supposed to have 60-66 psi on a
start & 60-64 running. Plus hold & not drop
no less than 10 psi in 10 mins. (Gradual
drop). But I took the plenum off today &
inspected it. One of the plastic inserts that
the fuel lines connects to was damaged so
I replaced it plus the o-rings, tiny washer,
etc. Now it won't start at all. Looked like
the fpr or fuel pressure regulator was good.
I joked fuel lines up while plenum was off &
there was no leaks. Was just wondering if
the regulator was bad or check valve in
pump? I'll have to buy a gauge. I don't own
one.

The fuel pressure bleed down test would tell you what is going on, fuel pressure should reach 56 to 63 lbs. Is this a 4.3? There is a new re-design on the injectors, spider lines, and fuel regulator that is recommended to put in as a unit if you find they are leaking. Replacing any of these items do not last if attempted.
