97 s10 ls 4.3 wont start unless i put gas in carb. changed rotor an cap. can hear fuel pump working. gettin plenty of fire . got me dumbfounded

Dont be dumbfounded, it could be the fuel pump, you may hear it but there may not be enough pressure. But first change the fuel filter that my be clogged

You have a fuel pressure issue. May be the fuel pump, or the spider injection. Need to check fuel pump pressure to determine which is bad. Fuel pressure should be 56 to 63 lbs.
