Motor size

uhmm im not sure ithink you can put an 8 in it you just got to check out how there configuered. sometimes the 6 and the 8's are setup different and it can be alot to change them over but the best the best thing to do is just call a chevy dealer and ask them theyll know first
the largest size that u can put in is the 4.3 liter vortex v6. with stock motor mounts. other wise u will need to do alot modifications and making custom parts
i tell ya what, i've installed a 383 stroker personally, and i've seen 502 big blocks put in s-10's, but if ya have a choice put in a bored 350, there the easiest and i believe ya get more outta them than a big block
Well depends how much work you wanna do i've heard of people putting 350 v8 in them with stock v6 motor mounts just flip them around lol. but you can prolly but a 454 but you won't have room for accessorys and such like air
smallblock 283, 305, 350, 400 whatever you choose will fit the custom mounts are like 75 bucks and you can use a stock 4.3 tranny. i read in a forum that it adds like 180lbs to the front end and 50 or so to the rear and all stock suspension will work just fine, it'll just lower it about an inch. big blocks can be done and still have room for accessories but your going to have a hard time keeping it cool, but its the same way with the small blocks. some people have issues some dont. go to this link to see a nicely done 454 swap in a 1st gen..... no trailer queen either http://www.s10forum.com/forum/f10/1st-gen-bigblock-installation-223375/
its not hard to do a v8 swap at all, just a little time and a little money. the only thing that you really need to do is beat back the firewall a little bit in order to clear the distributer. if any questions just ask, i've in the last 2 months done 3 1st gen. 350 swaps. including my own
I stand corrected lol if you do a lot of mods and put time and money in it you can have accessorys like air lol as you can tell from the s10 the guy below me has posted lol
i got a 1994 S10 SS with a 4.3L 262 CID V6 its TBI it runs just fine its fast i beat a ford pick up with it
i would say that a 454 Big block Chevy i the biggest motor. and a 502 sounds really good in an S10
sse bud when you beef up the engine you have to beef up the rear differential because say you put a 454 it will snap that differential in half in cluding the axle and the drive line. so when you get a new engine beef every thing up before you get that new engine.
small block will fit with 2.8 motor mounts,,,fairly easy swap i've done 2,,the only prob was not able to keep the a/c,we butchered the heater box on the firewall both times

If You use your brain & plan every thing first, which means doing research. You can put a small block in the truck fairly easily & not spend a fortune. I worked at a shop back in 1992 where we put a tuned port 5.7 in a S-10 blazer with the original A/C & it looked Factory Installed. Now days you can buy complete kits with every thing needed & instructions to boot. There's even a few shows on TV that have done them.
I seen one with a big boy 572
I just put a 355 and th350 in a 87 s10 with aftermarket mounts it slid right in. only problem is with headers. I used headman shorties. the passenger side exits so close to the firewall no one will put exhaust on it. you would figure header manufacturers would figure this out and make the shorty header a little longer to get down to the bottom of the floor pan. by the way the motor is a .30 over 350,steel crank cross drilled and micropolished, stage ll rods with arp bolts, forged flat top pistons, block decked to 0, bpe aluminum heads 2.02x1.60 voodoo roller 1.6 rockers, lunati 550 lift 276 duration on 110 centerline. demon carb on torker intake, gear drive. TCI 350 turbo with 3,000 converter, 456 gears. truck is fast!

I have a 1995 s10 LS with the 4.3L manual. I yanked the engine out, got a trans-dapt kit and stuck in my 350 bored .30 over. the same transmission works perfectly. the kit comes with mounts and headers. ac still works I just moved the fans to the front of the radiator instead of the back of it. Very straight forward with the kit. I believe my 7 yr. old daughter could do it by herself to be honest. you just got to have access to tools like an engine hoist.

Hello everybody! I've bought a 1992 1st gen S10 long bed, with a four cylinder engine and 5spd manual I can't identify what engine and gearbox they are. TBI and computer has been removed by previous owners and the engine is equipped by a Nissan H20 carb, so I can't adjust the distributor. Therefore, I'm looking for a Chevy 305 with a 4spd manual to put into it. Has anyone did this? any tips?

Yes i am currently doing one now, although mine is an 84 s10 blazer, 4x4, putting a 305 ho out of a 84 camaro z28, i purchased the motor, transmission (700r4), complete engine wiring harness and computer, of course i changed the output shaft and rear housing of the transmission with one from 4 wheel drive, if yours is a 4x4 you have to change the oul pan,if 2 wheel drive you are fine, plus a body lifr kit helps with firewall and heaterbox clearence
