Okay, does the key turn in the ignition ? If the key works normally but seems "stuck" now. Try moving the wheels left to right a little while turning the key to the "run"" position and see if the ignition cylinder was just in "bind" with the wheel locking plate.

Any chance you just got the key "cut" for this car ? BEST case scenario - the "newly cut key" wasn't cut correctly and also the sharp edges don't allow the key to go in and out of the cylinder easily. WORST case scenario - Sounds like someone has messed with (inserted wrong key forcefully, tried to remove key cylinder with screwdriver or tried to "jam break" the cylinder (were you hit the lock cylinder with a hammer straight towards the column, in order to break the key cylinder and remove it from the column). My thought after reading your last statement would be to have a professional mechanic replace the ignition switch and clear any security system or ignition system issues as well.
