Fuel removal
Asked by Robert Sep 13, 2017 at 11:19 PM about the 2000 Chevrolet S-10 LB RWD
Question type: General
Truck was brought to a tragic end with a Completely full tank of liquid gold
(gas). Was thinking ,engage fuel pump at the relay and connect a hose to the
fuel line connection.
This would be better than dropping the full tank.
Any comments or better idea?

You could use the fuel pump to empty the fuel tank, but you must be very careful as a spark in the wrong place could ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire. Dropping a full fuel tank can be difficult due to the weight.
Might not sound dealership approved; but I took my bedliner off and just VERY CARFEFULLY cut a hole in my bed, making sure only to go far enough through to barely cut the metal of course (didn't wanna puncture a fuel line or hit a wire.) Then I had quick easy access to it without having to ever drop it. When I was done I used some 1/4" steel and made an access panel over the hole, so if I ever needed to get to it again I could and the bed integrity wouldn't be comp. Might sound a little jank to some, but it worked out extremely well for myself and a few friends as well.
