S-10 won't start

Asked by Galen Jan 04, 2016 at 02:52 PM about the 2002 Chevrolet S-10 LS Extended Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Truck was running fine. Battery only 6 month old. All of a sudden, it won't
start. Acts like the starter is stuck?  Have lights, signals, horn, but no ignition?

Give the starter a whack with a hammer or tire iron. I had the same problem. The unit gets stuck in the flywheel engaged position. If you try to start it, it will only cook your battery. Whacking it with a hammer disengages it so you can get home. You WILL need a new starter motor which has the solenoid on it already. Replaced mine and it started right up. Don't kill your battery.

Also make sure the crank sensor is clean if its dirty the truck wont start belive me ivw been there
