2006 dakota noise in transfer case when turn driveshaft by hand

Possibly a stretched chain. contacting the bottom of the case. Rotating the shaft the other way tightens the bottom of the chain leaving the top loose. It will sag so it does not touch the case.

Agree with Capn_Steve, you may have an issue with the chain or other internal part of the transfer case. Have you checked the transfer case fluid level?

switched my truck in 4 lock to check if it still worked bc its been cold and my rear driver tire skids and doesn't roll with the other so I switched it back into 2 wheel and its still messed up and when I switch to 4 wheel and the transfer case makes a whirring sound need sum help
