I have a 96 ram 1500 with a 318. the transmission wont up shift without having to let off the gas most
of the time. i can't afford a rebuild. is there something else that may cause this problem? and if not will
a transmission from a 360 fit. and what is the latest year model i can get a replacement for.

a 360 and a 318 are the same block so everything bolts up the same for the most part so a tranny for a 360 should fit just fine and to me it sounds like your tranny is on its last legs or is going to be there soon one thing that it could be that is cheap is it could be an output shaft speed sensor
Change the transmission fluid. I had this happen on my 99 every couple of years. The fluid is weak. The cold steals it's hydraulic properties. It won't shift out, especially in the morning. You run a slight risk of causing other transmission issues by changing the fluid, if it has never been changed before. In general however a fluid change will fix the problem.
