My 96 dodge ram 1500 hasn't been starting in the cold unless I hold my foot a on the gas and get my temperature gauge up then it finally idles but I don't know what the problem is.

I hope you get an answer on this, my 1997 is doing about the same thing. I have to hold the gas to get it to start first thing in the morning. After mine gets started and runs for about 30 seconds it starts to idle better, but it really is annoying.

Hey fellas, most likely your TPS (throttle) position sensor, wont throw a check engine if bad, also the IAC pintle valve just below it are real bad aboutcarboning up or getting sticky, also wint throw check engine light

Tps is easy to swap, 2 screws, iac take out clean seat with carb spray and rag, EASILY rock pintle back and forth slightly while pushing in and spray some lubes down under rubber skirt while doing it

All the late 90s early 2000s had this problem

My Durango did that until I replaced the thermostat
