Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I wonder why my battery cables (and posts) are always getting corroded.  I
usually replace the cabloes in the fall and again in the spring when I clean
the battery posts because I like them clean.  Definitely once a year I remove
them and replace them.  But the issue is really a mystery because they coat
up pretty regularly compared to any other car I have owned, in my opinion.  I
read where the battery leaking fumes can cause this.  I replace the battery 3
or 4 times now since I bough the truck new in 1997.  I am curious more than
anything.  Has anyone any ideas or expertise in this area?  Thank you in
advance.

Thanks. I have used the pads. I also coat with a little grease now and then over the years, but not regularly with this vehicle. It seemed it did not help with this vehicle. I will have to re visit that approach with petro jelly to be sure.

The battery acid gasses can come out of the battery case between the post and the case. That is why the terminals can corrode quickly. The pads work well and so does battery anti-corrosion spray or some kind of grease. It is best to use a mixture of baking soda and water to neutralize the corrosion before using the pads and applying the grease.

Thanks for the additional assurance! I do use the baking soda cleanse, too. It has been every battery for 20 years on this truck. More than any other I have had in 42 years driving.
