what year is compatible to interchange a transmission?

We have a 1998 dodge Ram 1500 2wd automatic pick up with a 318 Magnum 5.2 L
engine. We just got stuck in the snow and now it won't move while it's in reverse. Looks
like we need a new transmission for it. We have asked around to find a 98 transmission
but apparently no one has any. What year is compatible to interchange the transmission?

See if the local recycling yard has one or try online at "Hollander Interchange Manual" or ask a local transmission shop to look up interchangeability. You cant just have the transmission you have already serviced or rebuilt ?
To rebuild the one we have will cost a lot more than what we paid for the truck lol. We found one at a local auto wreckers for a good price We pick it up next weekend
