Truck won't turn over or start
Asked by 1998liftedram Jul 26, 2012 at 10:10 PM about the 1998 Dodge RAM 1500 Laramie SLT Quad Cab 4WD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Parked the truck one day. The next day went to start it up. The gauges go up once key is turned on but when I go to
start the truck all the gauges drop to the bottom and nothing happens. Doesn't even try to turn over or anything.
Disconnected the battery and re-connected and it does the same exact thing. Any ideas?

Check your gear position switch. You can do this by trying to start it in neutral or by attempting to start it while wiggling the gear selector. I had this issue on my Chrysler 300M.
check your battery mate
it could be the park/neutra safety switch, if you slap the gear selector lever up toward park does it have any effect on what the truck does? You may also want tot check the battery/charging system and the starter to see if they're all good.
mine did that dodge place reflashed the computer

Okay, just had the same exact problem. Truck was fine then went to start it and no starter action at all. Replaced Starter motor relay - nothing. purchased a new starter and luckily I was tired and didn't install it. Finance company called and suggested I change the battery IN THE REMOTE. Went out and picked up the battery, replaced battery in remote and truck fires right up. STEP ONE FROM NOW ON IS CHECK THE REMOTE BATTERY FIRST. Hope this helps some others going forward.
I have the same problem , imported 2001 model 1500 from US to UK , can you clarify REMOTE ? Re battery , fitted new starter Assy nothing !
Where is the start it ?
