Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 98 ram with the 318 v8 o got in it the other day and
made it a block away from my house when it died and
would not re start I checked to see if I have spark and I do i
can smell fuel and I even tried spraying starting fluid and
still won't start I had a snap on code reader put on and it
can't communicate with the computer so bought a new one
and still won't start I check all the relays and fuses and
there all good. When you crank the engine and have the gas
on the floor it wants to start but can't seem to get there if ur
not touching the gas when cranking it will just crank till the
battery does not sure what to do anymore thank u

Are you able to communicate with system now. Did you install a new computer. I've gotten a few new computers that was bad. If so monitor can and crank and to see if they sync. Check your injector pulse. Pull a few plugs and check gap on the plugs and to see if it's flooding. Check fuel pressure as well. Fuel pressure is 45 to 55 psi. Recheck computer connections. Very easy to bend a pin on computer. Check ignition coil. Should have a pretty blue white arc. Check cap and rotor.
