Transmission sticking

My 99' ram 1500 v-8 has a problem with the transmission. When accelerating, it wants to stick or hold in first gear and not shift into second properly. If I baby the throttle it will shift properly. If I accerale moderately, it sticks in first and revs up and doesnt shift into second when it should. Can someone give me some good knowlegeable advice and what to do to try and fix the problem?

check the fluid level- when was the last time you had a transmission service (oil and filter change) hhhmmmmmm??
