2000 dodge ram 1500 transmission not working

Asked by Customrides Nov 24, 2013 at 10:20 PM about the 2000 Dodge RAM 1500 SLT Club Cab RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

i have a 2000 dodge ram 1500 automatic 2 wheel drive. Well i was driving up a hill the other day and i felt a clunk and the truck stalled. I then switched to neutral and coasted up and over the hill and then tried to start took a couple of cranks then it started up switched back to drive and had no gears pulled over and even tried reverse and nothing. Does any one out there have a answer for this problem. 3 weeks prior to this the trans didnt want to shift from second to third with out letting off of the gas alittle but that problem went away.

First it could be just a plugged filter change the fluid and filter..its the cheapest easiest thing to try after that it gets expensive

Also when the pan is pulled look for a one inch long metal piece laying in the pan it is common for the band strap to fall out in the pan if the bands are not adjusted periodically
