2000 dodge ram 1500 5.9L V8 will turn over but wont crank

Asked by troubled1987 Oct 25, 2010 at 10:28 AM about the 2000 Dodge RAM 1500 ST Club Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The engine will crank if I pour gas into the throtle body and runs good but when I shut it off I have to pour gas in the TB each time. I have put a new fuel pump on because the old one had 45PSI and I was told it should be at 60PSI to crank its did not help. Also the first time this happend I was about 10 miles from home and when i got it cranked I drove it home. on the way home the check guage light came on and the voltage guage was at zero. I put a new alternator on and it started charging. I left the engine running and a few minutes later the voltage guage went to zero again. I took a meter and checked the battery and it was at 12 volts. there is an exernal voltage regulator for the alternator but I am not sure were it is.

ok first you need to know what your saying, if an engines turning over, its cranking, it might not start, but the lst i knew turning and cranking are the same thing, as for it telling you its not charging you could just have a bad connection somewhere. if your still dumping gas into the TB then you could have a plugged fuel line somewhere, or possibly kinked?
