Sounds to me like the fuel pressure regulator is takeing a crap on you. Or does it have a manual fuel pump?

All so check fuel filter. I am sure that is more than likely a electric fuel pump. so the pump could be weak. But the fuel pressure reg could be bleeding back on you and not holding the pressure when you shut it off so you need to prim it it to get it going
