Odometer not working

I have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 with the 4.7 liter. The odometer doesnt work. Whats the problem. Someone told me I have to send it to the dealer and the have the whole dash pod redone .Is that true?

might be- in the 21st century cars, we have done away with individual gauges- and odometers are made to be tamper-proof, anyway- ask the dealer, or check in on a Ram forum

1st check the wiring harness at tranny if not there go to scrap yard and buy used dash cluster before going to the dealer a lot cheaper.
