Check Gauges light comes on, and battery indicator drops to 0

Asked by My2003RAM1500 Feb 20, 2019 at 06:57 PM about the 2003 Dodge RAM 1500 SLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My "check gauges" light has been coming on when
I first start my truck. Turn it off, restart and
everything normal... until today.
Same scenario, only the check gauges comes on &
battery indicator drops to 0.
Just had the battery tested, really strong.
Had alternator checked, showed good, then
showed bad. Intermittent, nothing consistent.
Would it be the alternator going bad just not
completely gone ?

My 2005 Dodge Ram 5.7 is doing the same thing. Replaced battery, terminals, and had alternator checked good. My next thought also was to replace alternator thinking it was going out. Not a answer but just to let you know your not alone..

I have a 03 and over 200K miles on it and it just started to do the same thing. Ive read other posts and they say it might be a ECU going bad. It kind of sounds right considering those that changed/checked the alternator and battery. Not sure if I want to deal with it, since its 20 yrs old and time for a new one truck.
