04 Dodge ram 1500 5.7 no 1st or od

I have a 2004 dodge fam with no 1st gear. I had a
friend who knew dodge trucks very well suggest it
was the shift solenoid  ( which I ordered ) and
suddenly my friend passed away. I was just about to
tackle the job when I borrowed a scanner and pulled
the code p0700. Of course that is the transmission
control system. When I search online I find all sorts of
confusing information. Did I waist my money?
Is my obd2 not good enough to read the tcm? If not
what do I need to search for to find a scanner?

This really isn't a job for the DIY person. It will be cheaper to return the part and let a qualified transmission shop diagnose it. Keep in mind too that this vehicle is 19 years old! Hope that helps! Jim
