Torsion Bar

Asked by MR May 05, 2019 at 09:17 PM about the 2004 Dodge RAM 1500 Laramie 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Does the torsion bar hold up the truck? I
replaced my upper control arm, lower control
arm, and shock absorber. I never worked with
torsion bars before. When I went to put
everything together the torsion bar felt very
loose. I went to remove the jack and the truck
dropped almost to the ground. What did I do
wrong? All bolts are torqued, and everything
put back to where it was. The only thing is the
tension bar is loose still and has not been
adjusted or loaded, is this why my truck just
drops to the ground?

The torsion bar is the spring that holds the truck up. I don't know what you did wrong but you probably installed the lower control arm incorrectly. I suggest you have it towed to a good front end shop.
