2004 Durango 4.7 in a 2005 dodge ram 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 2005 dodge ram that had a bad 4.7
engine. I bought a 4.7 out of a 2004
Durango. I had two mechanics swap the
motor and they go it all swapped but said
the truck wouldn't even crank. Can I make
this work? Does the computer and wire
harness have to be changed?

Your computer has to go as well. Your 2004 sensors are sending codes that your 2005 ECM is not computing.

The mechanic I hired actually figured out that a ground was loose. After he tightened it down the truck started right up. After doing research I thought the computer and wire harness had to be changed as well but he just took the flywheel off of the older motor and put it on the new (new for me) motor. The 2005 had 3 plugs and the 2004, which came from the Durango had 4. It seems to be running pretty well now. Thanks for the help everyone and God bless.
Out of curiosity, did you use your original PCM and Harness? And if you did, did you have to switch out your sensors from your old 4.7 to your newer one? Or did your old PCM match up perfectly with the newer 4.7?
