I've tried everything

Asked by Emily Dec 27, 2017 at 11:34 AM about the 2006 Dodge RAM 1500 SLT Quad Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I haven't been able to get my truck to start in 2 months. It randomly died on me while I was driving, it sounded perfect the day before then the next morning I got a random high pitch sound coming from around my feet whenever I pressed the gas but this only started about 30 seconds to a minute before my truck quit. It cranks but wont turn over. I've replaced the battery, checked every fuse, changed the camshaft position sensor, the starter (it sounds better but sounds like its not getting enough power) I still need to replace the alternator and see if that does it. At this point I'm not sure what it could be, I've already tried doing a bunch of different resets on it too.

HI Emily, more than likely the alternator will not correct your issue. Do you have any lights on the dash? This may be able to point in a direction if you have a sensor preventing the truck from starting. If so, see what codes there are. If no codes are present, Start with the fuel system. The three things an engine needs to start is Fuel, Spark, and Compression. Unfortunately most diagnosis are trouble shooting. Start with turning the key to the on position, do you hear your fuel pump kick on? If so, move to the injectors and be sure there is pressure.
