Can an alternator cause tranission problem

Asked by jg117 Jun 08, 2015 at 10:58 PM about the 1996 Dodge RAM 2500 ST Club Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1996 dodge ram 1500 and it ended
up losing power and locking up in 2nd gear.
Took it to a shop and they said i have a
clogged cat converter and a bad
transmission but before the problems
happened i had no signs of a bad
transmission but signs of a bad cat so i had
the truck towed back to my house because
of skepticism. I changed the cat got some
horse power back but transmission still
locking up. so the other day i go to turn the
truck over and nothing but generator light
check engine light and a major battery drain
happened. I do believe it is a 46re trans and
since its ran electronically this is why i think
the alternator is causing it. I just would like
different opinions before i lose so much if its
something simple.
