It will never be the amount stated in the repair manuals. I usually try to measure the amount I drain and spill in my catch pan and then put the same quantity back in. Some complete systems can hold six gallons but when I drop the pan to replace the filter it takes six quarts. Unless you let it pump completely out a return line idling. And if it sits overnight, another two quarts comes out of the torque converter. Buy it by the gallon, it's cheaper that way.
