My 2000 Astro Van head lights are really acting weird. They went from one high beam not working before changing both head lamps, to both low beams coming on really dim and the opposite high beam not

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The high beam works on the passenger side only and the low beam is really dim on both sides. This is after replacing both sealed beam lights.

Dim lights are almost always caused by a loose or corroded ground wire at or near the headlights.

That was in the olden days Bob. New headlights get power from a computer called a body control module (BCM). They have constant 12 volt power in the middle leg. The outer legs are at 12 volts when the lamp is off. They are at 0 volts when the lamp is on. They are at 6 volts when the DRL's are on. There's no button on the floor either --- The dim headlight could be a poor connection or is could be getting a bad signal from the BCM. Another possibility is a problem with the multi function switch.

It was a few months ago I asked this. I ended up putting another new lamp in and it worked fine. I believe the new lamp was bad. I used elctric auto grease with the new lamp as well to try and keep moisture at bay. We have had more than our share of that this spring. I'm gonna go hunt down NOAH and hopefully get a ride.

I found that is was a fuse problem on mine. Install good fuse_ good to go. Pull fuse out_lights are dim. This was on my Chevy Silverado pickup.
