2000 blazer starter stays running

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So after replacing my starter now it will engage for a
second then just stay spinning (sounds like an electric
motor running) even when key is turned back and taken
out. I have to disconnect battery for it to stop. Alao i found
a small red wire that isnt connected near ignition switch.  I
dont know what to do and need vehicle running asap

MAY HAVE A BAD STARTER. EVEN A NEW STARTER CAN BE BAD. THE RELAY COULD BE BAD. THE START AND IGNITION WIRES MAY BE REVERSED.

Check the wiring at the starter, especially the positive battery cable where it bolts to the starter. If the cable end is mispositioned and touching one of the other terminals it will cause the starter to continuously crank. Even with the ignition switch off! Hope that helps! Jim
