My voltmeter on my 2005 Dodge Ram

Voltmeter jumps to 14 volts when ignition is turned on then drops to 8.
Voltage when off 12.88, 14 running

A brief drop while the starter is engaged is probably OK. The battery voltage is good and the 14 volts while running is normal.
