what can I do to get better gas mileage in my 06 dodge ram 2500 hemi? I've changed spark plugs, air cleaner and even had the fuel system professionally flushed by dodge dealer. What else can I do?? Thanks

Get a K&N cold air intake, throttle body spacer, computer chip programmer... these will all help gas mileage if you can resist the extra power they'll give you too. Then just accept the fact that a 2500 size truck will never get good gas mileage

Get any excess stuff out of it. A lot of people carry around a few hundred pounds of crap in their truck on a daily basis. Getting all of that out could help you pick up a couple MPGs. Also, put your tire pressure to the maximum the tires are rated to on the sidewall. The programmer might be a good idea if it has an economy setting, but I would stay away from the K&N intake and throttle body spacer idea, personally. Why? "Cold air intakes" are actually HOT air intakes. The air box can move plenty of air, but it is insulated from engine heat. A K&N kit makes it SOUND faster, but otherwise the air flow is not that much better, and it's just allowing more engine heat into the intake. Throttle body spacers are a scam too. The very best thing you can do: Keep your foot out of the throttle! If you do all of this stuff, you might be able to pull like 18 mpg out of that truck.

any thing short of forced induction as far as power goes on a gas engine, is a scam. the tops you get with a CAI, Exhaust, and "chip" is about 25hp. Your best bet, is to buy the diesel version of your truck, other than that, any hope of getting good mileage with it is just a dream.

with my 2005 ram 3500 with the cummins, im making almost 700hp at the rear tires, and i average about 28.5 mpg on the highway at 75mph. ive had a 27500lb GCW and still managed 11.5 at 67mph. if im not mistaken 11.5mpg is what your truck prolly does empty.

Well I can say that the cold air intake added valuable horsepower and gas mileage to my truck. The throttle body spacer also added about 1mpg average. Every little bit helps. And I have a replacement chip as well. Sorry they're not scams. I've measured about 4 more mpg on average while still taking advantage of the added power.

im not saying its a scam at all. more air moving smoothly into the combustion chamber = more power with better fuel economy, its a proven fact backed up by science and real world testing. adding a freer flowing exhaust from the manifolds back helps too (just a different "performance" muffler does nothing except change sound) chips dont do alot on a gas engine, but they can net you about 30hp. id say on a gas engine, with a proper CAI, a proper exhaust and a chip could net about 33-45hp over stock based on engine construction. (remember guys just because it says it adds a stated amount of HP doesnt mean it does)

same as everyone else has stated... intake, exhaust and a tuner.. probly 2-3mpg gain with all of it. dont let these people tell you its a scam either... the only ones that are scams are the ebay 35 dollar 100hp gain chips... there isnt a chip out there thats going to gain more the 10-19 hp on a gas vehicle. stick with a superchip, diablosport, or something similar. a decent tuner will cost you 250-400 bucks.stay away from the ebay cai as well. k&n comes with a throttle body spacer and the heat shields..

I believe the upgrades work, but i compared the price of the total package ( tuner, cold air intake, spacer and exhaust) i can save more driving like granpappy when i don't need the power. I did upgrade to the spectum cold air intake from jegs much cheaper, it also has a heat shield. my next investment will be to change my 96 dodge 2500 360 over to an electric fan from a mechanical fan. The smart thing would be to buy the deisel version but you know how it goes when you buy a truck it usually either you die or it does before it gets sold.

The only way a big truck saves gas is if its a diesel and you convert it to bio diesel. Then again diesel fuel usually is more expensive then gas.
