Why am I having to fill up at 12 gallons?

My fuel gauge seems to be fairly inaccurate, flucuating by about a quarter of a tank, edpengin on whether the truck is facing uphill or downhill, but I find that the low fuel light is coming on after only about 160-170 miles in the city, 210 or so on the highway, and yet the truck is only taking about 12 gallons. Any ideas why?

It sounds like the float level switch is sticking, so when you fill up, it doesnt rise all the way to the top of the switch. My truck did this for 6 months or so, and then the problem corrected itself. I assume you have a 22 gallon tank. Just set your trip indicator when you fill up and monitor your mileage that way. Unless you want to pay $500 for someone to go into the tank.

I also have the same problem with mine. But I have just bought it and at about 150 miles my light comes on . I am giving it a few more weeks before I spend the money to fix it. Maybe if I a lucky it will fix itself

Mine does the same I just watch my miles and when I hit 250 miles I know it is time to fill up as of yet I have never run out. I to am hoping it will reset its self. I had a grand am that did the same thing and all at once it reset so am hoping again.
