Buying a 2000 Chevy Blazer- needs engine

Question type: Shopping & Pricing
I'm looking into picking up a blazer for scrap value ($325). It currently runs but has an
engine knock. It only has 129,000 miles on it. It looks very nice- leather seats and
super clean.
Does anyone know about how much an engine replacement would cost? My budget is
about 3700 total but I would like to leave some wiggle room in case there's other
issues the seller "forgets" about.

Putting an engine into that might cost more than 4 grand- much more if it is done right- that is the reason you got it for scrap price- about the only way you can come out on this one financially is to rebuild the engine- just fix what's wrong, at least new rings and bearings- and do valves while you are at it- and you will have to do it yourself-
Go to the chevy dealer or go on line and check for rebuilt engines or Chevy crate engines. I just went on line and there is a 2000 blazer engine complete for $1,060.00. Also the asking price for 2000 Chevy blazers are between $1,000 and $7000. Milage was between 17 and 23 mpg. Do some shopping and ask around at engine rebuild shops. If you rebuild your engine you can turn the crank if it is not damaged, new rods and pistons, bore it out, head job, and misc parts alike plugs, wires and filters, should run about a grand? Brakes and parts also. Shocks and check the alignment and components. then you will have a fine ride and under budget. Shop around. Have fun.
