Chevrolet cavalier air conditioning problems

Asked by angelandhotdog Jun 22, 2013 at 05:49 PM about the 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier Coupe FWD

Question type: General

My 2000 Chevy cavalier air conditioner barley blows out cold air, last summer it froze you out. Freon is full, air compressor kicks in, but will not get cold anymore, relay and fuse okay. What else could the problem be? I am stumped. Please help as it is very hot outside. I really appreciate any assistance or advice you could give me. Thanks!

Have the freon checked. Too much wan it will not work properly. Make sure the AC clutch engages.

The fan will run even if the A/C is not turned on. The compressor will not engage when the A/C controls are turned on? Check the fuse to the compressor/A/C circuit. Are the wires good and connected. Too little or too much freon will stop the unit from engaging. You said not over charged. Was this checked using the correct A/C measuring gauges? If the compressor will not engage, how do you know the freon pressure is correct? The compressor clutch may be bad, has a blown fuse, or has a bad connection or switch.
